As I recall the events of the day at night as I lie in bed,
And God there's just one more thing I wish that you would do,
You see, that little metal box holds more than odds and ends--
We've never shaken hands or ever truly hugged, and yet,
I share my life with them so, if it's ok with you.
(HoosierKT) Amen! Bless my connection with the world!
(susan) The Goose Story read by Kibbe
This fall when you see geese heading south for the winter...
flying along in V formation... you might consider what science has
discovered as to why they fly that way:
As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird
immediately following. By flying in V formation the whole flock adds at
least 71% greater flying range, than if each bird flew on its own.
People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where
they are going more quickly and easily because they are traveling on the
thrust of one another.
When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and
resistance of trying to go it alone... and quickly gets back into
formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front.
If we have as much sense as a goose, we will stay in formation with
those who are headed the same way we are.
When the head goose gets tired it rotates back in the wing and another
goose flies point.
It is sensible to take turns doing demanding jobs...with people or with
geese flying south.
Geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their
speed.
What do we say when we honk from behind?
(susan) Finally...and this is important...when a goose gets sick or is wounded
by gunshots, and falls out of formation, two other geese fall out with
that goose and follow it down to lend help and protection. They stay
with the fallen goose until it is able to fly or until it dies, and only
then do they launch out on their own, or with another formation to catch
up with their group.
If we have the sense of a goose, we will stand by each other like that.
(HoosierKT) My mother always said I didn't have the sense God gave a
goose.
(susan) How Many Friends Have You? read by Nancy Dyson, Contributed by Angie Lovelace
(YiT) HOOT,HOOT,HOOT..
The old man turned to me and asked,
He rose quite slow with effort
(HoosierKT) Show me the fudge.
But think of what you're saying
A friend's a hand to pull you up
A true friend is an ally
But most of all a friend's a heart
So think of what I've spoken
And then he stood and faced me
(linda-oh) what a wonderful poem
(susan) Tommy Williams is talking about spouses,
(susan) Tom- In 1977 my sister was raped and murdered by a neighbor
I now no longer wait till the funeral to give people flowers
I hope we no longer wait to share flowers -
(susan) Roberta Kiley will read a post
Belongingness
Hi All,
While preparing for Portland in a few weeks, and reflecting on
Chicago, D.C., and some of the local gatherings I've attended, I
want to talk about "belongingness".
I don't know about the rest of you, but I've never before
enjoyed such a large circle of friends, and the unique closeness that
we share, as I now have via this list.
Oh, I've belonged to many clubs and groups, attended numerous
meetings and reunions, but always with a sense of aloneness and
detachment. For example, I enjoy class reunions, and attend... every
5 or 10 years. Then wait for word on the next one. I've worked on
political committees, and it's a great social experience, but after
the election, it's left to go home alone until the next election.
I've always had a few close friends, but never felt part of a
larger group, as we have here.
In Chicago I was on emotional overload. The energy, the caring,
the bonding, the love, was overwhelming. Nor was all that good
feeling something that was left behind. Thanks to this list, and
local gatherings, we're able to sustain this spirit.
The only way I can describe it is "belongingness". Like a
family? A tribe? A community? None of these terms does justice to
what I'm feeling.
Bob Stafford, in Chicago, while addressing the group, said
something about that he would do anything he could to help anyone in
our group, and he felt that the feelings were mutual, that he could
ask help of anyone of us, and it would be given. What a beautiful
thought, and true. That's what sets us apart from other groups.
I love you all, and I feel loved by you all. And I've never
before belonged to a "group" where I could feel comfortable saying
that.
Breast Cancer brought us together, but love keeps us together.
Luv, Bert
(susan) We will close with a Prayer by Fran Beslanwitch, but she is not
here!!! hahahah

Love me now, while I can know
The sweet and tender feelings
Which from true affection flow.
Do not wait until I'm gone
And have it chiseled in marble,
Sweet words on ice-cold stone,
Never to awaken,
There will be death between us,
And I won't hear you then.
even a little bit,
Let me know it while I am living
So I can treasure it.

When all the work of the day is done, this prayer is in my head,
God bless my mom and dad, and bless my girl and boys,
And bless my wonderful husband, too-He brings me so much joy,
If you don't mind my asking--please bless my computer too.
Now I know it's not normal to bless a small machine
But listen just a second and I'll tell you what I mean,
(NaomiB) Oh, Martha! She's great!
Inside those small components rest a hundred loving friends,,
Some it's true, I've never seen or met
(survivor1) That little metal box connects us all with eachother
I know for sure they love me by the kindnesses they give
And this little scrap of metal is how I get to where they live,
By faith is how I know them the same as I know you,
Just take an extra minute from your duties up above
To bless this little hunk of steel that's filled with so much love.
(linda-oh) amen
(Sand-i) amen
(PatTom) Thanks Martha
(linda-oh) our source of strength and inspiration and encouragement
(NaomiB) You guys are the best!
(HoosierKT) Linda, is that Martha or the computer?
(linda-oh) both
(Sand-i) hahahha
(kareno) now you know what she meant. :)
(NaomiB) I have two geese in my back yard. They are always together and
stay loyally by my back door all day long.
"How many friends have you?"
Why 10 or 20 friends have I
And named off just a few....
And sadly shook his head
A lucky child are you
To have so many friends he said
There is so much you do not know
A friend is not just someone
To whom you say "hello"

From darkness and despair
When all your other "so called" friends
Have help to put you there.
Who can't be moved or bought
A voice to keep your name alive
When others have forgot
A strong and sturdy wall
For from the hearts of friends
There comes the greatest love of all!!!
For every word is true
And answer once again my child
How many friends have you?
Awaiting my reply
Soft and sad I answered
"If lucky ....one have I"
