HOW TO MAKE A MILLET PROSTHESIS

What you need: a couple pounds of millet and a knee-hi stocking, (preferably a new one or at least one with no runs).

Millet can be bought in grain stores (it's used as a bird seed) or in health food stores.

If you purchase it in a health food store, you can eat the leftovers! Millet, is more expensive in health food stores but less dusty than millet from a grain store.

Put some millet in one of the stockings until it looks about right. Tamp it down periodically and add more millet, if necessary.

To see if it is the size you want, put it in your bra (hold on to the open end of the stocking so you don't end up pouring millet all over the place!) If you have a prosthesis or puff from the ACS, you could match the size.

Twist the open end of the stocking a few times and fold the top back down over the millet so you have a double thickness of stocking.

Tie a knot in the stocking close to the millet and cut off the extra part of the stocking. The knot will be your nipple.

You now have a genuine millet prosthesis, lightweight and cool.

Every year about 181,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer and 44,000 die of the disease. Every other day I will add one person to the "Faces of Breast Cancer" Gallery to represent the approximate 1000 that are diagnosed during that two day time period.
